Full biography
About 215 words
Enda O’Doherty is a professional speaker, a Double Ironman and a three times published author, and one of Ireland’s most sought after voices on resilience and workplace mental health. His subject is the invisible load: the pressure people carry into work every day and almost never mention, and what leaders and colleagues can actually do about it.
A secondary school teacher from Waterford, he made that load literal. He strapped a washing machine to his back and walked it around Ireland, and in 2017 he carried one to the summit of Kilimanjaro in aid of mental health. The machine was never a stunt. It was the only way he could find to show people something they could not see.
Enda is open about his own recovery from alcohol addiction, and that honesty is what audiences remember. His is a story that will shock and entertain you. He has told it on RTÉ, Newstalk and Virgin Media, in The Irish Times and the Irish Examiner, on Jarlath Regan’s An Irishman Abroad, and from the TEDx stage in his talk 8 life lessons from a washing machine. He has spoken to more than twenty thousand delegates for organisations including TripAdvisor, Kerry Foods, Sanofi, Blackbaud, ERGO and AIB, and speaks at conferences, leadership summits and wellbeing programmes throughout Ireland and the UK.

Our next speaker works with organisations on something most of them can feel but very few can name: the load their people are carrying, quietly, every single day. He made his own load impossible to ignore. He walked a washing machine around Ireland, then carried one to the roof of Africa. He is a professional speaker, a Double Ironman and a three times published author, and his is a story that will shock and entertain you. Please welcome Enda O’Doherty.
