The story behind the work

The load nobody mentions

Enda spent 33 years in education, as a secondary school teacher in Waterford, before he became a full time speaker. His subject is the invisible load: the pressure people carry into work every day and almost never mention, and what leaders and colleagues can actually do about it.

He made that load literal. He strapped a washing machine to his back and walked it around Ireland, and in 2017 he climbed Kilimanjaro with one, in aid of mental health. The machine was never a stunt. It was the only way he could find to show people something they could not see.

Enda is open about his own recovery from alcohol addiction, and that honesty is what audiences remember. He told the story from the TEDx stage in 8 life lessons from a washing machine, and on RTÉ, Newstalk and Virgin Media.
